State Rep. John M. Rogers (D-Mentor-On-The-Lake) today announced his appointment to serve on the Board of Ohio Tuition Trust Authority, which is responsible for overseeing investments that administer CollegeAdvantage— or Ohio's 529 college savings program. This program is eligible for families across Ohio who are looking to save for their children’s college education program through a tax-exempt savings and investment plan.

“I am certainly excited about working to make college more affordable for families and students across Ohio,” said Rogers. “Ensuring that our youth have the opportunity and access to education beyond high school is vital to their personal success and independence. Their ability to excel beyond high school adds to the prosperity of our state and that of our communities.”

Participants that utilize Ohio’s 529 plan can use the funds for a variety of higher education expenses, including tuition, fees, books and supplies. Contributions are deposited into an account with an investment plan selected by the patron. The plan offers tax-free growth, and funds can be used at any accredited institution in the country.

“I’ve introduced legislation in the past and continue in my efforts to help alleviate student debt for post-graduates,” said Rogers. “I believe it is just as important in creating an opportunity for families to help them save for a child’s higher education expenses.”

The board typically meets every third Thursday of the month. For a full list of board members, visit
