State Rep. John Rogers (D-Mentor-on-the-Lake) announced $42,328 in state funds this week for the design of a new ADA compliant boardwalk at Headlands Dunes State Nature Preserve in Mentor, Ohio. Current access paths to the beach require visitors to walk through the dunes, which can be difficult for those with mobility limitations.

“A new boardwalk ensures that every Ohioan has the chance to fully experience the natural beauty of Headlands Dunes,” said Rogers. “By reinvesting in our beach, we can extend the life of the dunes and enhance the experience for all visitors, regardless of their level of mobility.”

Environmental Design Group, LLC has been selected to provide professional engineering and administration services for the proposed 1,000 foot boardwalk that will connect the beach parking lot to the water’s edge. The structure will be ADA compliant so that visitors can easily access the beach, and stability of the new path will also protect the dunes from long-term damage.
