COLUMBUS -

State Representative John Becker (R-Union Township) recently sponsored legislation, House Bill 420, that would allow employees of private- and public-sector jobs to safely lock and store their firearms in their vehicles while they are at work.

“I’ve had several constituents approach me with this idea,” Rep. Becker said. “They are law-abiding citizens who want to be able to protect themselves, but their ability to protect themselves is gone once they go to work.”

Rep. Becker sponsored the bill under the premise that those who hold concealed carry permits are responsible residents who are well trained in firearm safety.

House Bill 420 is expected to be assigned to a House standing committee for further consideration.
