State Representative John Becker (R-Union Township) has sponsored his first pro-life proposal. House Bill 351 prohibits public and private insurance companies from covering elective abortions. The only exception is for ectopic (tubal) pregnancies.

The Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare) expressly allows states to prohibit insurance coverage for abortions. Currently eight states (Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Utah) do so.

“I would like Ohio to become the next state to prohibit insurance companies from covering elective abortions. This would reduce the number of abortions and encourage mothers to choose pro-life options such as adoption,” Becker said.

House Bill 351 will be assigned to a House committee in the near future.
