State Representative John Becker (R-Union Township) introduced House Bill 271 today. It is companion legislation to HB 255, which reduces Medicaid eligibility to federal minimums saving taxpayers $1.5 billion annually. HB 271 mitigates the negative impact of HB 255 to the poor and uninsured without increasing government spending.

“House Bill 271 will encourage more health care providers to perform more services for the poor and uninsured. The bill expands Ohio’s law providing immunity from malpractice litigation to surgeries and other invasive procedures for those at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level and are uninsured,” Becker said.

House Bill 271 will be assigned to a House committee in the near future.
