Rep. Boccieri: State Investment To Spur Restoration Of Local Landmark
Poland Historical Society to keep history alive at Little Red Schoolhouse

State Rep. John Boccieri (D-Poland) today announced that the Poland Township Historical Society will receive a grant in the amount of $6,327 from the Ohio History Fund for it’s Little Red Schoolhouse restoration project.

“I am extremely pleased to see this grant going to the restoration of a site that has such character and historical significance for Poland,” said Boccieri. “The Historical Society does great work for our community and I’m glad we can support its efforts to help us recall our local history.”

Staff from the Historical Society accepted the award earlier this afternoon during the annual Ohio History Connection Statehood Day luncheon in Columbus. The award is one of several competitive matching grants that the Ohio History Connection dedicated to fund various history-related projects across the state. A total of $100,000 in grant funds was distributed today from private donations through the income tax check-off.

Built in 1858, the Schoolhouse has been used as a church, educational center and local government and community meeting place. The Little Red Schoolhouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 and is now the official location for the Poland Historical Society.
