The funds are to be used to offset costs faced by local governments directly caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. COLUMBUS—State Rep. Jessica E. Miranda (D-Forest Park) issued a statement today following Gov. DeWine’s executive order to require facemasks in Hamilton County. Hamilton County is one of 12 counties, including Clermont, Fairfield, Lorain, Pickaway, Summit, Wood, Butler, Cuyahoga, Franklin, Montgomery and Trumbull, that are subject to the governor’s mask mandate. Each of the counties falls within Level 3 of the state’s new Public Health Advisory System, which was unveiled July 2. Level 3 indicates very high exposure and spread of coronavirus.

State Rep. Jessica E. Miranda (D-Forest Park) announced her appointment this week to the Ohio House Insurance Committee, where she will help shape and refine insurance policy during the 133rd General Assembly.

“I am honored and eager to use my background as an insurance agent to address the issues that impact everyday citizens in Ohio,” said Miranda. “From working through the logistics of medical and family leave to pushing back against archaic and restrictive efforts to restrict access to reproductive services, I am looking forward to getting started.”

House Democrats today voted against Senate Bill (SB) 23, a GOP-backed near-total abortion ban that would prohibit abortions in Ohio long before most women know they are pregnant. SB 23 would become the most extreme abortion ban in the country if signed into law.

“This bill stands in opposition to everything this body claims to stand for. We claim to care about local control, except when we don’t. We claim to care about the expertise of medical professionals, except when it’s more politically convenient to ignore them,” said Rep. Jessica Miranda (D-Forest Park). “And we claim to listen to our constituents and the concerns that they express, but as we saw with the passage of SB 23 today, we are doing exactly the opposite.”
