05.10.17 - GOP Attacks First Responders In Workers' Compensation Budget

State Rep. Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) today expressed outrage regarding the latest version of the state workers’ compensation budget, House Bill (HB) 27, which adds new barriers to firefighters and their families seeking state assistance for work-related injuries, illnesses and death.

“My Republican brothers and sisters frequently self-promote their unconditional support for our safety forces – our police officers, military and firefighters. However, all too often, their policy proposals chip away at the resources our brave defenders and rescuers have earned in the line of duty – from cutting Medicaid expansion in the budget and proposing limits to veterans' benefits via block grant funding formulas, to this latest attempt to limit access to healthcare for firefighters who contract serious illnesses from their jobs.

03.28.17 - Help Fighting Pay Discrimination In OH Would Be A Phone Call Away Under Two Lawmakers' Proposal

State Reps. Kent Smith (D-Euclid) and Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) recently introduced House Bill (HB) 138, legislation to fight pay discrimination in Ohio by establishing a toll-free equal pay hotline, an easily accessible, anonymous resource for workers to report wage discrimination and gather more information to find out if they could be victims of pay discrimination.

“Ohio workers should be able to discuss their salaries and report discrepancies without fearing they will be treated differently, demoted or fired,” said Boyd. “With women making up nearly half of Ohio’s workforce, the gender wage gap not only affects them but their entire families. This pay gap takes money out of the pockets of hardworking Ohioans that could otherwise go to helping families put food on the table, gas in the tank or even make a rent or mortgage payment.”

10.31.16 - Boyd Announces Approval Of State Investment Expected To Create 25 New Jobs In Shaker Heights

State Rep. Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) today announced state approval of a $100,000 investment in a local roadwork development project* that will help two Shaker Heights businesses create 25 new jobs. As a result of roadway improvements and state assistance provided, ABA Insurance will create 15 new jobs and Paragon Advisors will create 10 new jobs, for a total of nearly $2 million in new payroll. The state signed off on the $100,000 investment at today’s meeting of the Controlling Board, a panel tasked with oversight of state spending.

“Maintaining strong infrastructure in our cities is vital to driving economic development and creating new jobs,” said Boyd. “Many communities are struggling to maintain and improve their roads and bridges after being hit by drastic state budget cuts in recent years. I am glad in this instance that the state was willing to partner on this important project to bring new jobs to Shaker Heights.”
