02.06.18 - Rep. Boyd Statement On Passage Of Congressional Redistricting Reform Bill

State Rep. Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) issued the following statement on the congressional redistricting proposal, Senate Joint Resolution 5, voted out of the General Assembly today:

01.31.18 - Dem Lawmakers Unveil Paid Family Leave Bill

State Reps. Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) and Kristin Boggs (D-Columbus) today announced legislation to establish the Ohio Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program, which would provide economic stability to working families in times of a medical emergency, when caring for a sick loved one, or welcoming a newborn into the family. While federal law provides some workers the ability to take leave, it does not provide those workers with any guarantees that they will have compensation while on leave.

07.14.17 - Democratic Lawmakers Introduce Common Sense Legislation To Protect Domestic Violence Victims

State Reps. Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) and Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) yesterday introduced legislation to better protect victims of domestic violence from their abuser by requiring those convicted of a domestic violence crime or served a civil protection order (CPO) to temporarily turn over their firearms to law enforcement.

“On behalf of the victims of domestic violence – those whom we've lost and those whom we hope to save with our bill – I hope my Republican brothers and sisters will support empowering local law enforcement and courts in their vital efforts to deescalate some of the most dangerous domestic situations in our state,” said Boyd.

07.06.17 - Boyd: Medicaid Restrictions, Taxes Among Eleven Potential Law Changes From House GOP Veto Showdown With Governor

Today, the Republican-controlled Ohio House of Representatives overrode eleven items Governor John Kasich vetoed in the recently passed state budget, House Bill (HB) 49. Under the House’s overrides, Medicaid expansion would have to be reauthorized through the state Controlling Board and new taxes on working people could be put in place as a condition of healthcare coverage.

"The fact of the matter is that my Republican brothers and sisters could have responsibly addressed the budget shortfall by working with us on a bipartisan tax plan that benefits all Ohioans,” said Rep. Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights). “It is irresponsible to try to fix the budget gap by restricting Ohioans’ access to Medicaid. Many people will be cut off from life-saving services like breast and cervical cancer screenings."
