Jamie Callender News

State Reps. Jamie Callender (R-Concord) and John M. Rogers (D-Mentor-on-the-Lake) announced the state Controlling Board’ s approval of two capital funding measures that include engineering building renovations and workforce based training equipment for Lakeland Community College (LCC).

“I’m proud today to announce the approval of this important funding which is going towards enhancing the educational experience of our local college students,” said Callender. “LCC is a tremendous resource for Lake County and the surrounding region and these dollars will help ensure that in areas like engineering, our youth are prepared to work and be successful in today’s economy.”

The funds will be distributed as follows:

  • $307,246 for Engineering Building Renovations
  • $174,219 for Workforce Based Training and Equipment

Both items specified that the appropriations will be used to purchase equipment for the purpose of advancing both the renovations and the workforce based training programs at LCC.

“These funds will help Lakeland Community College continue with its efforts to innovate and expand programs providing individuals with the necessary training to better prepare them for careers in emerging and high-demand industries,” said Rogers. “With unemployment rates in Lake County amidst this current pandemic hovering around 15%, thousands of job opportunities in the area remain unfilled due to a lack of training or skill set. Workforce development grants are investments by Ohio that contribute to sustainable economic recovery and long-term success for both Ohio’s employers and working families across our region.”

The next Controlling Board meeting is scheduled for August 24.
