Lawmakers, Activists To Urge Legislative Leaders To End Failed State Takeovers Of Local School Districts
Will push to restore local control in Youngstown, East Cleveland, Lorain
 
 

Rep. Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) and Sen. Michael Rulli (R-Youngstown) will hold a press conference on Monday, February 24, at 10 a.m. at the New Bethel Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio to urge Statehouse leaders to eliminate Academic Distress Commissions and restore local control of public schools in East Cleveland, Lorain and Youngstown.


The call to action follows the recent House passage of Senate Bill 89, which included a provision to end state takeovers. The House passed similar legislation in 2019, House Bill 154 that has also stalled in the Senate.
