10.06.14 - Rep. Clyde Announces State Funds For NEOMED Facility Upgrade

State Rep. Kathleen Clyde (D-Kent) announced today that the state has approved the release of capital funds to the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). $792,000 will be used to contract with Weatherproofing Technologies, Inc. of Beechwood for a complete replacement of the roof of the university’s Comparative Medical Unit.

“NEOMED’s recent 40th anniversary celebration has brought great change to the campus, with new buildings going up and existing facilities undergoing upgrades,” said Rep. Clyde. “I am impressed that the expansion of the university has been undertaken with careful consideration for the preservation of the university’s existing assets, such as the Comparative Medical Unit.”

The Comparative Medical Unit supports the research and teaching programs of the university. The facility’s 23,000-square-foot roof was installed in 1975 and has begun leaking due to age. The roof will require a total replacement.

NEOMED is an internationally recognized research and teaching institution training health professionals and medical researchers. The university is transforming its 450,000-square-foot campus to accommodate growing class sizes and enhance research facilities.

Rep. Clyde represents the 75th Ohio House District, serving Kent, Ravenna, Streetsboro, and Central and Southern Portage County.
