State Rep. Hearcel Craig (D-Columbus) today announced the unanimous House passage of House Bill (HB) 194, bipartisan legislation to establish special license plates for military service and awards.

“I am proud that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle support this legislation,” said Craig, a military veteran. “In today’s times, it’s important to remember the tremendous sacrifices our military makes to protect our safety and our liberty as Americans. We are grateful for their service, and this legislation will help honor them for everything they do in keeping our country safe.”

HB 194 will require the Director of Veterans Services and the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to develop and maintain a program that issues nonstandard license plates recognizing military service and military honors. The legislation was jointly sponsored by State Rep. Terry Johnson (R-McDermott), a fellow military veteran, and passed out of House Transportation and Public Safety Committee earlier this year.

HB 194 passed the House 91-0. It now heads to the Senate for consideration.
