Manning Supports Local COVID-19 Relief Funding

Gayle Manning News

State Rep. Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) announces that the state Controlling Board recently approved COVID-19 relief funding, some of which will be allocated to local governments within the 55th Ohio House District. This will support a range of pandemic-related expenses, including the work of first responders and other local services that have been vital in areas across Ohio.

“Our local cities and governments have hurt during the times of this pandemic,” said Manning. “This continued relief is important, not only so that our governments have the capability of handling tedious expenses incurred by COVID-19, but to continue to provide our communities with services and support.”

Specifically, some of the measures passed includes:

  • $175 million in COVID-19 relief appropriations for the distribution to local governments throughout the state;
  • $97.5 million to expand on the state’s testing efforts for COVID-19; and
  • $31 million to ODJFS for child care support.

The $175 million in COVID-19 relief to local governments, townships, counties, and municipalities comes from the federal CARES Act initiative, and includes the following areas within the 55th Ohio House District:

  • Avon Lake – $215,743
  • Elyria – $811,090
  • Elyria Township – $25,217
  • Carlisle Township – $52,950
  • Grafton Village – $36,961
  • North Ridgeville – $262,237
  • Sheffield Village – $39,452

Additionally, the approval will provide millions in total for Lorain County. The measure is similar to the approval of $350 million to help local governments by the Ohio House of Representative under House Bill 481, which was signed into law over the summer.

The Controlling Board also approved COVID-19 aid to support local educational service centers and boards of developmental disabilities, including the Lorain County Board of Developmental Disabilities, which received $123,841.

The next scheduled Controlling Board meeting is set for Sept. 14.
