Speaker of the Ohio House William G. Batchelder (R-Medina) today announced that he has appointed Rep. Gary Scherer (R-Pickaway County) as the new vice chair of the House Ways & Means Committee effective today. The House Ways & Means Committee chiefly works on taxation and budgetary issues.


“As a certified public accountant, Representative Scherer brings a valuable insight and skill set to the House Ways and Means Committee,” Speaker Batchelder said. “His knowledge on a variety of tax issues is critical to the operation of this committe and I am honored that he has agreed to serve the people of Ohio in this new leadership role.”


As vice chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, he will also continue his service on the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee as well as the Financial Institutions, Housing, and Urban Development Committee.


Representative Scherer has always strived to remain active within his community. Prior to joining the Ohio House, Representative Scherer had served as president of the Circleville Rotary Club and the Circleville-Pickaway Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a trustee of the Berger Health System. Among other involvement, he continues to maintain his membership in the Ohio Farm Bureau, as well as his position as a finance committee member of his local church.


Representative Scherer and his wife of 38 years reside outside Circleville. They have been blessed with three children and eight grandchildren.

State Representative Gary Scherer (R-Circleville) yesterday was sworn in as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives for the 132nd General Assembly. He represents the 92nd Ohio House District, which includes Fayette County, as well as portions of Pickaway and Ross counties.  This will be his third full term as state representative.

"Shared Work" Program Passes House

 
COLUMBUS - 

The Ohio House of Representatives unanimously passed Sub. House Bill 37,, legislation sponsored by State Representatives Mike Duffey (R-Worthington) and Gary Scherer (R-Circleville) to help prevent layoffs across the state. The bill is now headed to the Ohio Senate where a companion bill has already passed, indicating a likelihood of bill passage in the near future.
