COLUMBUS—State Representative Gary Scherer (R-Circleville) today announced that Sugar Creek Packing Co. donated almost 4,000 pounds of food to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s Operation Feed campaign, which provides meals to families in need.

Operation Feed is an annual food drive in which 100 percent of the proceeds are used to help feed hungry families across central and eastern Ohio.

The Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate both took part in the challenge and competed to see which chamber could raise the most money or cans for meals.  The result was over 171,000 meals being delivered to those in need.  The House won by collecting $10,200 and 1,777 cans.  Corporate commitments were also welcome.  Campbell’s Soup, Giant Eagle and Sugar Creek Packing Co. all gave generous donations.  Sugar Creek Packing Co. donated 3,825 pounds of food for the challenge.

“I am appreciative of the generosity of Sugar Creek Packing, and the support it shows to its surrounding communities,” Rep. Scherer said. “More importantly than the friendly House vs. Senate rivalry, this food will go to benefit the hundreds of hungry families around Ohio.”

Sugar Creek Packing Co. was founded in Washington Court House, where the corporate office is located, in 1966, and now operates five facilities across Ohio with one in Kansas and one in Indiana.  They manufacture an assortment of raw and fully cooked products to be sold domestically and internationally.
