State Representative Dorothy Pelanda (R-Marysville) today applauded Governor John Kasich’s signing of House Bill 14, which requires a school district to release to another school the records of a child who is alleged an abused, neglected or dependent child.

The legislation provides educational stability and continuity for children who are at the center of abuse, neglect or dependency complaints in juvenile court. These children are often temporarily denied access to an education while institutions assert the right to collect unpaid school fees as a reason to refuse transfer of record.

“Today is a major step forward for the development of Ohio’s foster children, who often face serious difficulties in receiving a continuity of education through the other disruptions and difficulties they face in life,” Rep. Pelanda said. “I applaud all the people involved in the crafting of this bill and commend the governor for signing it into law.”
