State Rep. Dick Stein (R-Norwalk) highlights significant local transit funding approval for Huron and Lorain Counties. The State Controlling Board approved the measure at their most recent meeting earlier this week.

Huron and Lorain Counties will receive the following allocation estimates:

  • Rural Transit Traditional, Services for Aging, Inc. - $531,940
  • Mobility Management, GLCAP of Wood, Sandusky, Ottawa, Erie, Seneca, Huron - $334,674
  • Mobility Management, Lorain County United Way - $133,883

The appropriations are for rural transit and mobility management purposes, which will help cover current transit operating expenses related to the coronavirus and includes the purchase of personal protective equipment.

“Our transit industry within Ohio is still an important mode of transportation for people, even as we face a pandemic,” said Stein. “As the transit system is susceptible to challenges like everyone and everything else due to COVID-19, this relief will help them keep and maintain operations and ensure they have the proper PPE for their day-to-day work.”

The State Controlling Board approved this request from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to increase the appropriation authority of $81.9 million from the CARES Act. As a result, these funds are scheduled to be dispersed through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and then allocated across the state through ODOT’s Office of Transit.

The next State Controlling Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 27.
