Swearingen Statement on the Coronavirus

March 12, 2020
D. J. Swearingen News

State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron) has released the following statement amid concerns of the coronavirus:

“As a member of the Ohio House Health Committee, I wanted to reiterate some helpful tips, comments, and resources provided by healthcare professionals at this time as all Ohioans, and those within the 89th district, are trying to research and understand information pertaining to the coronavirus.

I want to thank both the Erie and Ottawa Counties’ Departments of Health for information they have provided to the public, these tips include:

• Frequently wash and scrub your hands with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds
• Cough or sneeze into your arm or shoulder; or, use a tissue and wash your hands afterward
• Clean surfaces and objects that are touched often
• Make a habit of NOT touching your face
• And if you or your child is sick, stay home, except to get medical care

• Contain germs by steering clear of others who are sick

I am thankful for and appreciate all the efforts of our local and state health officials and healthcare professionals who are taking the appropriate and preventative measures to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. I believe that everyone within our communities should stay as informed as possible as we all continue to monitor this situation.  By following the advice and counsel of our healthcare professionals, we can work together as Ohioans to take steps to reduce the spread of this virus and do our best to make sure that the situation remains manageable for our healthcare workers so that they can continue to do their job as best they can.  Each individual doing their part to follow these steps will help the larger community.
