COLUMBUS—Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville), State Representative Rick Perales (R-Beavercreek) and State Representative Jeff Rezabek (R-Clayton) today issued statements regarding an amendment included in the state operating budget. The provision ensures that $2 million in funding over the biennium goes towards the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in preparation for the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process.

“Wright-Patterson Air Force Base serves an important function in southwest Ohio and it continues to be a beacon of innovation and job opportunity for our state,” Speaker Rosenberger said. “I want to thank Representative Perales and members of the Dayton Delegation for their work on this provision and for looking out for this very vital military installation through an investment in the state operating budget, which signifies our commitment to the facility and will have a real impact on people in the area.”

“I’d like to commend Speaker Rosenberger for his leadership in supporting the efforts to invest in Ohio’s military installations,” said Perales. “Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is the largest single-site employer in Ohio and has an annual economic impact of nearly $5 billion, and I drafted this amendment to ensure that the state sends a clear message to the folks in Washington that Ohio values our installations and we are willing to put skin in the game for them.”

“I want to thank Speaker Rosenberger and Representative Perales for their hard work on this amendment,” Rep. Rezabek said. “Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is extremely vital to the Miami Valley Region and this is a great step in the right direction for our local communities and the men and women who serve at the base.”

The budget bill is planned for a full House vote tomorrow.
