COLUMBUS—Representatives from Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger’s office will be attending a ceremony designating a section of State Route 317 in Franklin County as the “Sergeant Joseph W. Danison Memorial Highway.”


In 2016, Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) submitted an amendment to Senate Bill 207 to create the memorial highway. Sergeant Danison, a Columbus native, Danison was killed in action in Vietnam on September 13, 1969. He served as a platoon leader in the 1st Air Cavalry.


For his heroic actions, Danison was awarded the Bronze Star, which was presented four months after his death to his widow and parents in his hometown of Columbus. Danison is the recipient of two Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts and the Air Medal.


Veterans who served with Danison 48 years ago will travel from across the country to meet the family for the first time. The day of the dedication would have been Danison’s 72nd birthday.
