Representative Christina Hagan (R-Alliance) yesterday gave sponsor testimony to the House Health & Aging Committee on House Bill 142, which would designate the month of March as “Endometriosis Awareness Month.”

Rep. Hagan spoke to the committee about the legislation:

“It is our hope that naming the month of March “Endometriosis Awareness Month” will give the women of Ohio with Endometriosis a voice after they have expressed feeling underserved with the amount of research attributed to combatting this disease and also to provide them with a platform for open discussion about what their sometimes devastating battle can actually mean to their reproductive health and life goals.”

Endometriosis is a disorder affecting women in which tissue which would normally line the inside of the uterus grows externally and in other parts of the body. This disorder of the reproductive tissue can cause pain, irritation, scar tissue and fertility problems. It affects around 5 million women in the United States.

State Representative Christina Hagan is currently serving her second term in the Ohio House of Representatives. She represents the 50th House District, which includes eastern Stark County.
