Representative Brett Hillyer Discusses His Legislation to Aid OSU Sexual Abuse Victims

June 4, 2019
Brett Hudson Hillyer News

COLUMBUS— State Representative Brett Hillyer (R-Uhrichsville) today held a press conference to discuss House Bill 249, his legislation that provides a narrow window of opportunity for the sexual abuse victims of Dr. Richard Strauss to have their day in court.

“This bill will allow victims who have carried the shame and trauma of abuse for decades to have their day in court,” said Rep. Hillyer. “Furthermore, this legislation will provide victims with the opportunity to seek the justice that they were denied as students.”

Without this legislation, victims of Dr. Strauss are likely barred by the state’s statute of limitations from holding accountable those responsible for enabling decades of sexual abuse.

Representative Hillyer was joined by members of the Rights for Ohio State Victims – a coalition of OSU alumni sexually abused by Dr. Strauss.
