In the face of massive devastation surrounding Puerto Rica from Hurricane Maria, state Rep. Kennedy Kent (D-Columbus) today announced local efforts in Franklin County to help provide some relief to the U.S. Territory residents.

Gonzalo Ramos of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Columbus advised Derek Torres, an administrator from Puerto Rico’s Federal Affairs Administration and liaison from the office of Puerto Rico’s First Lady, to reach out to the office of his state Representative to assist in efforts to store pallets of donated supplies. Without hesitation, Rep. Kennedy Kent’s legislative office immediately agreed to assist in disaster relief efforts by reaching out to her pastor, Bishop Donald J. Washington of Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church.

Contributions will be collected on Saturday, September 24 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at The Shops at Worthington Place at 160 West Wilson Bridge Road, Worthington Ohio, 43085. Donated items will be stored at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church until they are ready to be shipped.

“It is my hope to work within the community to help collect much needed donations for the citizens of Puerto Rico,” said Kennedy Kent. “I encourage residents in my district, and beyond, to come out and support this effort by dropping off much needed donations.”

For more information, please contact Derek Torres at (614) 907-1497.
