As many of you may have heard, our area recently got some exciting news. Amazon has chosen to expand its operations in Ohio, bringing with it about one thousand new jobs to the central Ohio region. This is just one piece of a great movement of new business and jobs to our state, but I am particularly thrilled to see New Albany reaping the benefits of Ohio’s pro-business, pro-growth policies with a new Amazon Web Services Data Computing Center.

Amazon is developing facilities in Ohio to support its Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. The $1.1 billion investment project stretches across Hilliard, Dublin and New Albany. Seeing high tech businesses like Amazon choose Ohio as their new home could mean high paying jobs for Ohioans and economic improvements in our area.

AWS provides customers with a fully featured, cloud-based technology infrastructure platform from its data center locations across the world. Their subsidiary, Vadata Inc., closed on development deals to build data centers in Hilliard and Dublin months earlier, but the site of the third location was just recently revealed as New Albany.

I applaud New Albany, and the entire state of Ohio, for providing tax incentives to lure this business to our area. With a total investment in New Albany that could hit $300 million, it is sure to be a boost to New Albany International Business Park and to the area as a whole. When we provide support to companies like Amazon, who see the benefits of investing in Ohio, we help to create jobs for hardworking Ohioans. We have one of the best workforces in the world here in Ohio, many of whom just need an opportunity.

I hope to see continued investment in central Ohio and around the state by companies like Amazon. I will continue to support pro-business policies that create jobs and a better life for the citizens of this state. As always, feel free to contact my office about this development or any state government related issues.
