State Representative Andy Thompson (R-Marietta) today held a press conference at the Ohio Holocaust and Liberators Memorial at the Statehouse to discuss legislation he is sponsoring along with Rep. Dave Greenspan (R-Westlake) that condemns the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and increasing incidents of anti-Semitism in the United States.

House Concurrent Resolution 10 aims to reinforce the relationship Ohio has with Israel by strengthening ties and increasing collaboration with the country through business, government, the arts, culture and education. However, the bill also sheds light on recent events across the nation where anti-Semitic sentiments and the BDS movement have been promoted on college campuses and the negative impact this can have on not only Israeli Jewish students, but on all students at the school.

“We chose this time and place for this event because of the urgency of this issue,” Rep. Thompson said. “I was pleased to be joined by leaders in the Evangelical and Jewish communities and we hope to send a strong signal to the BDS movement and the citizens of Ohio.”

Joined by Chris Long, President of the Ohio Christian Alliance; Michael Goldstein, Ohio Director for Proclaiming Justice to the Nations; and Rabbi Avi Goldstein, Beth Jacob Congregation in Berwick, Rep. Thompson reiterated the importance of supporting Israel and the awareness this resolution brings to the topic of anti-Semitism at Ohio colleges and in communities around the state.

HCR 10 has been referred to the House Government Accountability and Oversight Committee where it will be further discussed.
