State Representative Andy Thompson (R-Marietta) today applauded House Concurrent Resolution 29, which he sponsored, after its passage through the Ohio House of Representatives.  The initiative calls for the President of The United States to stop the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recent regulations that will limit fuel diversity and increase energy costs.

The resolution is in response to new proposals by the EPA to utilize the greenhouse gas (GHG) as a new source of energy.  With coal generating 80 percent of Ohio’s power and providing a source of employment and stability for Ohio citizens, the new EPA initiatives are expected to jeopardize the economy of the state.

"No other fuel source provides the reliability, the cost effectiveness, the abundant  supply and the job multiplier effects of coal,” Rep. Thompson said.  “New EPA rules are a direct assault on the domestic coal industry and must be stopped."

The United States currently has enough coal for 250 years, making it the most abundant source of energy in the country.

H.C.R. 29 passed the House with bipartisan support and will now move to the Senate for consideration.
