COLUMBUS –State Rep. Alicia Reece (D-Cincinnati) announced today that the State Controlling Board has released funds in the amount of $428,571, to create an internship program with the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber is one of eight partner organizations receiving funds from the Ohio Third Frontier Internship Program (OTFIP) for high-tech internship placement throughout Ohio.

The goals of the internship program are to develop a pool of talented workers for Ohio’s businesses, create enriching student work experiences, and assist students in obtaining permanent full-time employment in Ohio after graduation. The program links Ohio students with rewarding internship opportunities that provide great hands-on experience within Ohio’s private sector business community.

“Internships are a wonderful way to gain knowledge and experience while forging connections with important people in the field,” said Rep. Reece. “With such a competitive job market, internships are somewhat of a prerequisite to finding meaningful full-time employment.”

The OTFIP will reimburse up to 50 percent of an intern’s wages or up to $3,000 for a 12 month period. Eligible students must be in their sophomore year at a technology, community, or four year college, or a Master’s or Doctoral candidate enrolled in degree programs with a high-tech curriculum. After graduation, the Cincinnati Regional Chamber will have the opportunity to offer full-time employment to an individual who is well prepared for a future career with the organization.
