State Representative and President of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus (OLBC) Alicia Reece spoke at a press conference today announcing that the state of Ohio met its Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certification goals for the first time since the program was written into law over 30 years ago. Officials announced that the State of Ohio spent a record $228 million with 325 MBE-certified businesses for FY 2015.

Representative Reece released the following statement today:

“Although it is sad that it has taken 30 years for the state to implement Ohio’s Minority Business Enterprise law that was championed by the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, today is a victory for minority businesses and the state of Ohio. Meeting this benchmark of minority inclusion was at the top of the OLBC Action Agenda, and we worked with Governor Kasich and the administration to make it happen. This is not just a contract program but an economic expansion program that creates jobs and diversifies the marketplace.”
