State Rep Alicia Reece (D-Cincinnati), a lifetime alumna of Grambling State University and former Miss Grambling State University, today issued the following statement in response to the tragic early-morning shooting deaths of two young men, Earl Andrews, 23, a Grambling State University senior from Farmerville, Louisiana, and Monquiarius Caldwell a 23-year-old from Farmerville:

“I woke up at four this morning to the tragic news that a shooting had occurred on my alma mater’s campus and two young men were killed as a result. I am deeply saddened by the senseless killing of Earl Andrews and Monquiarius Caldwell. Today we are once again faced with more violence in our country, and now find ourselves searching for answers amidst the heartbreak. My prayers are with the families of Earl Andrews and Monquiarius Caldwell.

“I am confident that under the leadership of President Rick Gallot, university staff, students and my Grambling family will find the strength, courage, wisdom and compassion to come together in this tragic time to rise above violence and recommit ourselves to the pursuit of knowledge, diversity, growth and an unwavering resolve for peace, equality and prosperity.”
