COLUMBUS – Yesterday, Ohio Legislative Black Caucus President Alicia Reece (D-Cincinnati) released the following statement in honor of Juneteenth, a yearly celebration to commemorate the end of slavery:

“It was 149 years ago that slavery came to an end in all corners of the United States.  Juneteenth represents a new beginning for African-Americans and reminds us of the fragility of freedom and those who worked hard to attain it. We owe it to our ancestors to celebrate this historical milestone by never forgetting the history of our country and the price that was paid to gain freedom.”
