01.23.17 - Ohio State Rep. Alicia Reece Calls On Ohio Attorney General To Investigate Hateful Vandalism In Cincinnati

State Rep. Alicia Reece (D-Cincinnati) today sent a letter to Attorney General Mike DeWine urging him to investigate recent incidents of vandalism involving hateful symbols and speech in Cincinnati.

Reece’s alma mater, Whithrow High School, was targeted by vandals this weekend, who spray-painted swastikas and racist and homophobic graffiti on the school’s exterior.

This latest incident marks the fourth time in three months that hateful language and images have been painted on homes, schools and public spaces in the Southwest Ohio city.

01.23.17 - OH Rep. Alicia Reece Issues Statement On Hate Crimes Targeting Cincinnati Alma Mater

State Rep. and former president of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Alicia Reece (D-Cincinnati) issued the following statement after touring her alma mater, Withrow High School in Cincinnati, where vandals defaced the school with swastikas and threats:

“With two similar acts of hate, ethnic intimidation and property damage targeting educational institutions in Cincinnati, it is important the state steps up to become an active participant in the investigation and enforcement of state laws against these appalling and hostile acts. To that end, I will formally ask the state attorney general to investigate these as an emerging criminal pattern.

12.08.16 - Reece: Bipartisan Justice Reform Measure Will Reduce Barriers To Employment

State Rep. and President of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus (OLBC) Alicia Reece (D-Cincinnati) today applauded the House passage of House Bill (HB) 618, bipartisan justice reform legislation to automatically and completely expunge the criminal records of people who are arrested through a case of mistaken identification.

“When someone is wrongfully arrested for mistaken identity, an arrest record is still created and can show up on background checks later down the line – even if the person is released as innocent that same day,” said Reece. “Innocent people should not have to face an additional barrier to employment or housing just because they fit a description and were mistakenly arrested.”

10.11.16 - OLBC President Reece Celebrates Historic Progress On State's Minority Business Inclusion

State Rep. and President of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus (OLBC) Alicia Reece (D-Cincinnati) applauded today’s announcement that Ohio met its Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certification goals for the second consecutive year since the program was established over 30 years ago.

“I am proud that we have been able to move a thirty-plus year law championed by the OLBC from goals and aspirations into results and reality for Ohio’s African American and minority businesses,” said Reece. “This record level of investment is historic and demonstrates that OLBC’s advocacy and partnership with the governor and state is leading to a stronger promise of prosperity and economic opportunity for our entrepreneurs and business leaders who create jobs and pay taxes.”
