08.16.17 - Dem Lawmakers Introduce School Safety Drill Bill To Better Prepare Students, Local Communities For Emergencies

 

State Reps. Adam C. Miller (D-Columbus) and Bernadine Kennedy Kent (D-Columbus) recently introduced new legislation titled the School Safety Drill bill to help improve emergency response readiness in school districts across the state.

“The School Safety Drill bill will directly improve communication between school districts and first responders by involving all qualified parties in the emergency procedure rehearsal,” said Miller, a former school board member, teacher and a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve JAG Corps with military service in Afghanistan. “The Rehearsal of Concept (ROC) drill used in the military is a proven best practice in helping identify gaps in emergency response planning. I believe school districts need a similar tool to help ensure our students are safe.”

 
 

06.01.17 - Rep. Miller Testifies On Bipartisan Bill To Increase Military Representation In Ohio Counties

 

State Reps. Adam Miller (D-Columbus) and Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) this week gave sponsor testimony before the House Armed Services, Veterans Affairs, and Homeland Security Committee in support of House Bill 192, bipartisan legislation to increase military representation across the state by allowing Veterans Services Commission’s in Ohio counties to add up to two additional members. 

“The military spouse is the service member’s secret weapon. The military spouse provides the resiliency, the support, and all of the unspoken understanding so critical for those called to serve in harm’s way. Our Veteran’s Services capacity will expand tenfold with the addition of a military spouse in our commissions,” said Miller.

 
 

05.23.17 - Rep. Miller Announces ODE Summer Food Service Program For Ohio's Youth

 

State Rep. Adam C. Miller (D-Columbus) recently announced the Ohio Department of Education’s Summer Food Service Program is underway to ensure children ages eighteen and under receive free nutritious meals during the summer months when school is not in session.

Additionally, young adults ages nineteen through twenty-one that are currently enrolled in an Individualized Education Program (IEP) are also eligible to use the Summer Food Services Program. The program is free and there is no sign up required.

State Rep. Adam Miller (D-Columbus) today announced the committees on which he will serve to help shape and refine public policy during the 132nd General Assembly.  

“I am tremendously humbled and honored to serve on these impactful committees. I'm especially looking forward to working with all of my colleagues to help make Ohio's education system second-to-none and to provide a continuity of service for veterans and military families that sets the pace for our great nation,” said Miller, a combat veteran who served in Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division in 2004. “In addition, serving on the Federalism and Interstate Relations Committee gives me an opportunity to leverage best practices and build on relationships forged with fellow service members over the past 20 years in the United States military.”
