12.08.16 - Bipartisan OVI Immobilization Reform Bill Sent To Governor's Desk

State Reps. John Rogers (D-Mentor-on-the-Lake) and Bob Cupp (R-Allen County) today announced the Senate passage of House Bill 436, legislation to address an inconsistency in state law with regard to OVI license suspension and offender vehicle mobilization.

HB 436 previously passed unanimously in the Ohio House in March and in the Senate Transportation Commerce and Labor Committee last week.

“This bill is the product of consultation with some of my friends in the judicial branch, including Mentor Municipal Court Judge Trebets,” said Rogers. “They came to me explaining this issue, which I recognized to be an issue from my many years as a prosecutor.”

12.06.16 - Ohio Legislature Threatens Job Growth With Energy Standard Redo

State Rep. John Rogers (D-Mentor-on-the-Lake) today criticized the passage of House Bill (HB) 554, saying legislation that changes the state’s energy efficiency standards to unenforceable “goals” through 2019 will harm consumers and jeopardize thousands of manufacturing and development jobs in Ohio’s advanced energy industry.

“HB 554 fails to return local control to communities considering large-scale wind energy development, tying the hands of communities that want to attract investment from alternative energy producers,” said Rep. John Rogers (D-Mentor-on-the-Lake). “I believe communities are better equipped to understanding their needs and what measures should be considered to attract investment and bring energy related jobs to the region.”

07.25.16 - Over $350K In Fairport Harbor Funding Gets Final Nod From State

StateRep. John Rogers (D-Mentor-on-the-Lake) today announced the release of $368,680 in “Straight A” grant funding for Fairport Harbor Exempted Village. The funding will help the school district create “Startup Fairport: College, Career and Community Success”, an incubator project to support student-run startups. Rogers announced initial state approval of the grant application in late June.

“I am delighted to see the state’s recommendation and approval to expand innovation and opportunity for students in Northeast Ohio,” said Rogers. “Encouraging children to dream big, come up with creative business plans and learn how to market their products will have a positive impact as they prepare to graduate and enter the workforce.”

06.22.16 - Rep. Rogers Announces "Straight A" Funding For Innovative Local Education Project

StateRep. John Rogers (D-Mentor-on-the-Lake) today announced the approval of $368,680 in “Straight A” grant funding for Fairport Harbor Exempted Village. The funding will help the school district create the “Startup Fairport: College, Career and Community Success” project, an incubator to support student-run startups.

“I am pleased to see the state investing in innovative education projects that will allow students to build upon their creativity and imagination,” said Rogers. “Engaging young students through programs that allow them to create products, gain experience developing a business plan and learn how to market goods will have a positive impact on their career development and the healthy future of our small business community.”
