State Representative John Becker is currently serving his second term at the Ohio House of Representatives. He represents the 65th District in northwestern Clermont County, which includes Loveland, Milford, Newtownsville and Owensville, as well as Goshen, Miami, Stonelick, Union and Wayne townships.

The state budget is complex and made up of multiple funds, sometimes referred to as “silos” or “buckets.” While watching your tax dollars, I concentrate mostly on the state portion of the General Revenue Fund (GRF). The city of Toledo, Ohio is about three-and-a-half hours north of my home in Clermont County, but I’m sure most of us heard about the severe issues the city experienced last summer because of the algae problem in Lake Erie. City residents were forced to travel great distances in order to get clean drinking water for their families. A scary situation, to say the least.

State Representative John Becker (R-Union Township – Clermont Co.) applauded yesterday’s Ohio House passage of House Bill 7, legislation that provides academic protections for students taking new state assessments during the 2014-15 school year. New assessments in mathematics and English language arts are supplied by the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC).
