State Rep. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) co-sponsored House Bill 230, legislation to directly combat drug and human trafficking in Ohio which passed the Ohio House last week.

House Bill 230 comes as a result of the staggering increase in drug overdoses, specifically fentanyl poisoning, in Ohio and throughout the United States. Since the bill’s initial introduction on June 27, 2023, roughly 3,624 Ohioans and 57,380 Americans have died of fentanyl poisoning, according to statistics provided by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.

“This bill will ensure those who are harming members of our communities with drugs be held accountable for their actions,” said Cutrona. “I am proud to support law enforcement to help protect all Ohioans so Ohio remains a place for people to live, work, and enjoy life.”

State Rep. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) this week introduced legislation that would require school district boards of education in Ohio to adopt a policy that authorizes students to be excused from school to attend a religious release time program.

“More and more parents in Ohio would like their children to participate in religious release time programs,” said Cutrona. “By being proactive in considering how release time programs work before groups of parents ask for an option, school districts will be in the best position to tailor a program that works within the academic framework of the district.”

This legislation would require school districts across the state to prepare for the eventuality that parents would like a release time option by creating a policy to guide this activity in the future.

COLUMBUS—The Ohio House of Representatives today approved the historic Strategic Community Investment Fund, as part of Substitute House Bill 2, announced State Rep. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield), who sponsored and drafted the legislation.

The Strategic Community Investment Fund includes $350 million for statewide, regional, and local projects. Additionally, this legislation invests $2 billion in Ohio’s future for generations to come.

“I am proud to sponsor this legislation to ensure that we are building a brighter Ohio,” said Cutrona.  “My goal this general assembly was to bring back state dollars to communities throughout the state of Ohio, especially in areas of the state that are often overlooked.  Whether it is investing in tourism, public safety, health and wellness of our citizens, or helping instill community pride, this one-time funding in the Mahoning Valley especially, will strengthen the region, and the rest of the Ohio, for generations to come.”

COLUMBUS, OH — State Rep. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) cosponsored the Human Trafficking Prevention Act that will increase criminal penalties for human trafficking, kidnapping, and abduction.

“The fact that Ohio has the fourth-highest number of reported cases of human trafficking in the nation, is frightening and unacceptable,” said Cutrona.  “When you factor in that over 97% of those cases involve sex trafficking, our penalties aren’t strong enough.  We must do everything we can to ensure justice for all victims of trafficking.”

COLUMBUS, OH — State Rep. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) made the following statement in response to the Ohio House overriding Governor DeWine’s veto of House Bill 68, the Save Adolescents from Experimentation Act (SAFE) and the Save Women’s Sports Act:

“As a co-sponsor of HB 68, I was shocked and appalled by Governor DeWine’s veto on the bill. Today, I stand proudly on the House floor to override this veto. We have a duty as the legislature to protect our children – Children with gender dysphoria need mental health counseling and treatment, not surgical mutilation - and the SAFE Act does exactly that by banning puberty blockers and surgical sex changes for children and keeping boys out of women’s sports. I commend my colleagues in the House for their expeditious actions on this bill and urge my colleagues in the Senate to do the same and quickly overturn this veto.”

The veto override now heads to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
